A juvenile who was arrested after the armed robbery of the Palm Coast Circle K, located on Cypress Point Parkway, on Oct. 2 had his charges transferred to an adult court on Monday, Oct. 9, according to a release by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a 911 call at around 11:55 p.m. on Oct. 2 at the Circle K. The store’s clerk told deputies that he saw a male with a backpack enter the store and point a firearm at the clerk while demanding all the money in the cash register.
The clerk told deputies the suspect then demanded to know where the security footage was stored. The suspect fired one round into the video monitor after the clerk showed him where it was located, according to the release.
Before leaving the store, the suspect took the clerk’s cell phone and store phone.
Shortly after the incident, Flagler Communications issued a “Be On The Lookout” for the suspect.
According to the release, a deputy working a special detail in Seminole Woods spotted a vehicle with its lights off on a cul-de-sac with empty houses.
The passenger of the vehicle, 17-year-old DeVaughn William Anderson, matched the physical description of the robbery suspect. Anderson also had a backpack, which contained a firearm matching the firearm used in the robbery.
Anderson was initially arrested and charged with armed robbery with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm in public, possession of a firearm by a minor, carrying a concealed weapon, petit theft, grand theft over $300, giving a false name while detained and criminal mischief resulting in more than $200 in damages.
He was taken to the Flagler County Detention Facility and released to the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.
The transfer to adult court resulted in an arrest warrant for Anderson. Deputies took him into custody on Monday night. He is being held in the FCDF and has a bond set at $35,500.
“This was the right decision by the state attorney’s office to charge him as an adult,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “This is an example of us working together with state attorney Larizza’s office to get tougher penalties for violent offenders.”
