Port Orange resident Rachael Howanitz has been named the Joe Petrock Auxiliary Volunteer of the Month for October 2017 by the Halifax Health - Auxiliary.

Howanitz has been a Halifax Health volunteer since 2016 and volunteers in the radiology outpatient unit where she has already provided 783 hours of service.

Howanitz was nominated by Halifax Health’s radiology outpatient unit staff, who described her as dependable, punctual and someone who has a "passion to help others."

The Auxiliary has been operating since 1932 and serves over 400 volunteer members contributing more than 80,000 hours annually.

According to Halifax Health Public Relations Specialist Tangela Boyd, it's volunteers like Howanitz that help keep everything running.

"We can't do what we do as effectively without our volunteers, they mean the world to us," Boyd said. "They fundraise for us, they help us take care of patients, they help us with everyday office needs, they just do so much, and we value them."
