The Port Orange City Council approved spending authorization with Superion, Inc., a company that allegedly had a data breach of its online payment system, Superior Click2Gov, in Ormond Beach. City officials have not reported any data breach within the Port Orange system.

The decision was made during the Tuesday, Oct. 17 city council meeting with a 5-0 vote.

Approval from the council was for $106,410.56 for annual software maintenance and technical support for fiscal year 2108. This will also authorize the mayor and city clerk to "execute any documents required for this purpose."

However, because of the breach, the city of Port Orange has suspended use of their Click2Gov for online bill pay and auto bill pay. Suspended online payments include water utility and business tax renewals.

"We have reason to believe that Port Orange isn’t in the same situation that Ormond is," City Manager Jake Johansson said. "We have a different version of Click2Gov. Ormond's on version one, we're on version three."

Port Orange has held a contract with Superion since 1988. According to the city, "the fee for annual software maintenance and technical support covers 30 software modules currently utilized throughout all city departments, including archived public safety operations."

Johansson added that while officials believe version three has better protection devices, the city will continue the suspension until Superion can verify everything is safe. Until then, customers can pay their bills by mail, over the phone or at the Customer Service Department located in City Hall.

City officials announced that refunds or deductions will be made on any auto bill pay late charges associated with the suspension as soon as the system is back up and running.

Customers are being asked to monitor personal credit card transactions and report suspicious activity to their credit card bank or issuer.
