Atlantic entered its contest with Satellite, a team that has scored at least 38 points in all but one game this season, on the heels of a 0-6 record.
By the end of the first half, Satellite had ensured yet another loss for the Sharks, as the Scorpions (5-1) torched Atlantic 49-6 at Spruce Creek High School on the night of Thursday, Oct. 12.
The Sharks' defense was ravaged by Scorpions quarterback Noah Mumme, who passed for 375 yards, rushed for 104 yards and was responsible for seven total touchdowns. The Sharks' Zaquan Davis was the lone bright spot for Atlantic, rushing 19 times for 82 yards and a score.
While Satellite was able to put up 35 points in the first half, including taking a routine screen pass 45 yards to the house for the first score of the game halfway through the first quarter, the Sharks (0-7) had just one first down the entire half and were forced to punt on each of their first six drives.
Despite Satellite's offensive and defensive firepower, the Sharks were able to avoid their third shutout of the season when Davis snuck into the end zone from two yards out late in the third quarter. The score cut the Scorpions' lead to 42-6 with 2:40 left in the third frame.
Atlantic will have yet another opportunity to capture its first win of the season when it faces off against Mount Dora (3-3-1) at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at Spruce Creek High School. Mount Dora, which tied a scoreless game against Trinity Catholic on Sept. 15, is coming off a bye week. The Hurricanes' last game was a 19-12 home victory over Pine Ridge on Oct. 6.
Friday's game is one of three chances the Sharks have at ending their winless season.
