City gears up for grand opening of Riverwalk Park

On Saturday, Nov. 4, Port Orange's Riverwalk Park will finally have its grand opening. The park will include a children's play area, green space, a promenade area and splash pad, among others. The splash pad would be the city’s second. 

The grand opening will coincide with Port Orange's celebration of 150 years as a city. 

Saturday's event will take place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 3431 S. Ridgewood Ave., with the ribbon cutting taking place at 4:30 p.m. 

Local veteran receives hall of fame nominated 

Port Orange resident Rod Phillips was selected by Gov. Rick Scott and his cabinet, on Tuesday, Oct. 17, to be inducted into the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame. This hall of fame focuses on post-military contributions to the state of Florida. 

The Florida Veterans Hall of Fame is located in the rotunda of the Florida Capital in Tallahassee and is intended to recognize those veterans who have made a significant contribution to the lives of Floridians.

Rotary Club to hold casino night for good cause 

The Port Orange South Daytona Rotary Club will hold its 11th Annual Ace’s High Casino Night at the Shores Report & Spa on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. 

Proceeds from the event benefit local youth scholarships and Rotary charities.

The theme of this year’s event is "Saturday Night Fever,” and will feature casino-type games, a silent auction, food and a cash bar. Players receive tickets to enter a raffle for prizes from area businesses.  

Tickets are $45 in advance and $55 at the door, and include $2,000 in chips, hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar.  Call Kim Dillon at 386-451-1506 to purchase tickets.
