The Spruce Creek boys and girls cross country teams competed in the championship meet for 4A District 2 on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Seminole State College in Oviedo. The boys team finished in seventh place, while the girls team took third. The Hawks' Camyrn Cooney took home individual honors for the girls meet.

Sharks' boys cross country wins district title

The Atlantic boys cross country team took first place in the championship meet for 2A District 6 on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Atlantic High School. Seven of the Sharks' runners finished in the top 11 in the event.

Hawks volleyball edges out Lake Mary in playoff opener

The Spruce Creek volleyball team survived a close contest against Lake Mary in the Hawks' playoff opener, defeating Lake Mary in a thrilling five-set tilt on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Spruce Creek High School.

Senior outside hitter Lindsey Pliapol led the Hawks with 19 kills.

Spruce Creek won the opening set but dropped the second set behind a 4-0 run by the Rams. The Hawks breezed in the third set, winning 25-11 before losing the fourth set 25-21. The Hawks won the final frame on a game-winning kill by Pliapol.

With the win, Spruce Creek advances to compete in the regional semifinal. The Hawks will host Oviedo at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Spruce Creek High School.
