It was a group effort as sponges were plunged into soapy water to wash cars and raise money for a good cause.

The people doing the washing were at the parking lot of Ritter's Frozen Custard on Saturday, Sept. 2, in hopes of raising about $400 to buy children's uniforms for a new anti-bullying, martial arts program called Break the Chains, which is run through the Our Children First Foundation and New Life Church.

The fundraiser brought in $107 for the program.

"These children are also going to be able to earn their belts," said Christina Markoff, Our Children First Foundation CEO and founder. "We're trying to keep it free for the children that are a part of Our Children First."

The program, which also includes mentoring, instructs students on appropriate times to use the skills they have learned to de-escalate situations, according to the organization's Facebook page. While learning anti-bullying strategies, the students will work through different levels while also working toward their individual goals. The program also helps children who have been through any kind of abuse.

Target Supervisor Courtney Swiger brought a team of people to volunteer at the car wash, to benefit the foundation

"You actually know that what they're doing is actually making a difference," Swiger said.
