Hurricane Irma may now be a Category 3 storm but that doesn't mean residents should be any less prepared.

A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Volusia County as the hurricane makes its way inland. Officials have changed the county's curfew time to 9 p.m. Sunday to 9 a.m. Monday.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management has estimated that 6.3 Floridians have already been ordered to evacuate.

Waste Pro announced there will be no garbage collection on Monday, Sept. 11 and instead, collections will be made on Tuesday, Sept. 12. According to the company, "all scheduled collections will roll one day as if it were a holiday."

Duke Energy Florida announced around 7,000 workers are being mobilized close to the state to respond to outages from Hurricane Irma.

Sandbags

The city of Port Orange announced that there is no longer anymore sand at the Spruce Creek Ballfield, 481 Central Park Blvd. However, sandbags are still available on Saturday, Sept. 9, until supplies last, at the two additional locations in Port Orange:

  • Southwinds Soccer Complex, 1200 Richel Drive

  • Coraci Park, 5200 Coraci Bvd.

Residents will need valid identification and are asked to bring their own shovels and fill their own bags. There
is a limit of 10 bags per household.
