Volusia hospitals transferring patients before hurricane hits

Winds from the hurricane are forecasted to extend through Monday.

Hospitals throughout Volusia County are transferring patients in preparation of Hurricane Irma. 

According to a news release, on Friday, Sept. 8, Florida Hospital Oceanside in Ormond Beach transferred 31 patients to Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach. The emergency department is closed.

"The 80-bed facility is located beachside on A1A and is positioned within a mandatory evacuation zone in Volusia County," according to officials. 

Additionally, Florida Hospital New Smyrna transferred approximately 50 patients to Florida Hospital DeLand and Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City on Friday, Sept. 8. The emergency department is also closed. The 112-bed facility is located within a flood zone and is near the Intracoastal Waterway.

Florida Hospital DeLand, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City, Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast, and Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach and the emergency departments are open for patients with medical emergencies.

"It is important to note that the hospitals do not serve as hurricane shelters and community members are encouraged to either stay at a designated hurricane shelter or evacuate from the storm’s impact zone," according to the news release. 

According to officials, area residents will have free access to Florida Hospital eCare Urgent Care providers during the hurricane.
