Flagler County first responders will be grounded for the duration of Hurricane Irma effective at midnight, according to a release from the county.
Public Safety Emergency Manager Steve Garten said county officials are expecting sustained winds of 45 mph, meaning first responders won’t be able to respond to any calls.
“It is very important that everyone stays indoors from here on out,” Garten said.
When the storm passes, crews will assess damages, power outages, downed electric lines, toppled trees and road closures. First responders will get to those in need as soon as possible.
“Please stay where you are until we can determine whether conditions are safe,” County Administrator Craig Coffey said. “We don’t want anyone to get hurt.”
