County officials enourage residents to find shelter by 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10

Fire rescue and law enforcement will not be able to respond quickly as wind speeds increase to tropical storm-force.

With Hurricane Irma approaching, Flagler County officials are encouraging residents to find shelter by 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, and to stay indoors until the storm passes, according to a release.

“Dangerous winds alone are reason enough to stay indoors,” Emergency Manager Steve Garten said in a release. “Now is the time to stay safely where you are. Do not leave.”

Fire rescue and law enforcement will not be able to respond quickly as wind speeds increase to tropical storm-force.

“There will come a time when we cannot send out our emergency personnel,” County Administrator Craig Coffey said. “We want to keep everyone safe.”
