Trying to find a missing pet can be a scary situation by itself. Trying to find a missing before a hurricane is about to hit may be even scarier.
This is exactly what happened to Chris Popun whose dog, GusGus, went missing around 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8 in Port Orange.
Popun had gone to a wedding with his wife and left their light brown puggle at his mother’s house near City Center with her two other dogs. Popun said he believes the family was boarding their home windows for the coming storm when a gate may have been left open allowing GusGus to get out.
When they returned home from the wedding, GusGus was gone and they began putting the word out online and looking through Facebook to find lost pets. It wasn’t long before residents started letting the Popuns know they had seen a dog in the area that looked like GusGus.
Popun said several people had tried to catch the dog but were unsuccessful. It wasn’t until a report came in that a muggle matching GusGus’ description had been spotted that the Popuns had their chance to be reunited with their dog.
Around 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, Popun made his way to the Countryside neighborhood where he spotted a dog that not only looked like GusGus but was GusGus.
Popun said all he had to do was yell, “are you hungry?” and the puggle let his owner bring him home.
Popun said they are staying in Florida while the hurricane passes, adding that finding their dog was “such a relief.”
