Residents of Palm Coast who lose power should reduce water consumption as much as possible in order to decrease the amount of water going down the drain, according to a release from the city.

The wastewater sewer system can’t move sewage to the treatment plant without electricity. Even with the use of generators, the system will not be operating at full strength.

Residents with pretreatment effluent pumping system (PEP) tanks should drastically decrease their water use if they lose power. PEP tanks cannot empty into the wastewater system without power. If the tank is filled to its capacity, there is a chance it could back up into your home.

If you lose power, do not do laundry. Flush the toilet as seldom as possible. And put as little water down sink and shower drains as you can.

If your tank alarm goes off, call Palm Coast Customer Service at 386-986-2360, and a crew will be sent to help as soon as it is safe to do so.
