Hurricane update: Tuesday, Sept. 12

A countywide curfew remains in effect from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. until further notice.

As of 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12, 55% of Florida Power and Light customers did not have power; 98% of customers from Clay Electric did not have power; and 60% of customers from New Smyrna Beach Utilities Commission did not have power. 

Shelters

All school shelters have closed. However, there is a temporary shelter at the Ocean Center for people with special needs and those who are unable to stay in their homes due to damage or flooding from Hurricane Irma. 

Curfew

A countywide curfew remains in effect from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. until further notice.  

Roadways

There are about 150 intersections without traffic signals in the county. Motorists should treat these intersections as four-way stops. 

Beach Street in Ormond Beach near Tomoka State Park, John 

Anderson Drive in Ormond Beach, and Walter Boardman in Ormond Beach are

closed due to flooding. Motorists are being asked to detour around these areas. 

Daytona Beach International Airport

The airport will reopen at 4 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13. Travelers should check with the airlines regarding their flight schedules. Rental car companies at the airport will reopen at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13. Cars parked at the airport can be picked up. 

Beaches 

Beaches reopened Tuesday, Sept. 12. There has been debris on the beach and in the water. Beach officials have been flying the double-red flag.
