A 34-year-old man was arrested on Monday, Sept. 11, after allegedly looting the Sunglass World store at 5521 S. Williamson Blvd., Unit 410.

According to the Port Orange Police Department, Harold Hall committed the act of looting during a state of emergency when he entered the store and stole merchandise and vandalized the business property.

Hall was found to be in possession of burglary tools, which he used during the burglary, according to the incident report.

According to police, approximately $145,000 had been taken and there was more than $1,000 worth in damage that would temporarily disrupt business.

The store’s manager, Brenda Martin, observed the suspect on a live video surveillance just after midnight on Monday, Sept. 11. She observed him holding a hammer and making several trips in and out of the store with store merchandise, according to the report.

The report also indicated, that Martin saw Hall breaking cases and placing eyeglasses into a bag.

Responders to the scene observed the front glass to the store was broken and they could also hear someone breaking eye glass cases. A K9, Loki, also responded to the scene.

The officer in charge of Loki took the K9 to the front door and announced a warning. According to the report, Hall then ran through the back door of the business before the K9 was deployed inside. However, Hall made it through the back door before the K9 could reach him.

Officers then chased after Hall and were able to take him into custody without incident.

The store owner indicated she plans to press charges, according to the report.

Hall admitted to breaking into the business, after being dropped off by a friend, but did not say why he burglarized the store, according to police.

Hall was booked into the Volusia County jail with no bond.
