The Port Orange city council has approved a seven day extension of the current state of emergency due to the damage from Hurricane Irma.
A state of emergency was first declared in every Florida county after an executive order was put out by Gov. Rick Scott on Monday, Sept. 4. A local state of emergency was approved by the city council and executed by City Manager Jake Johansson on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
The local state of emergency, which began at 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, is now extended until 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19, unless it is ended by the city council or another executive order.
According to Executive Order Number 3, the damage caused by Hurricane Irma has left behind debris that needs to be collected and disposed of.
