After being closed for several days, Volusia County public schools will reopen on Monday, Sept. 18.

The schools will remain closed Thursday, Sept. 14 and Friday, Sept. 15 due to the hurricane. All extra-curricular activities, and athletic practices and competitions are cancelled until Monday.

"By remaining closed this week, it will provide time for repairs to schools, the return of families and employees who may have evacuated, and restoration of utilities," according to officials.

As of Wednesday, Sept. 13, only 78% of east side schools have power and 53% of west side schools have power.  Preliminary inspections have not indicated any catastrophic damages to schools. However, officials have noted there is some roof damage and water intrusion at several schools.

A Connect-ED message will be sent to notify all families and employees of the closure. Updated information will also be recorded on the district’s main phone lines at 386-734-7190, 386-255-6475, 386-427-5223 and 386-860-3322 in addition to the district’s website at volusia.k12.fl.us.
