Flagler Schools organized pick-up zones in Flagler Beach and Bunnell on Sept. 15 for locals in need to come get materials — such as toiletries, school supplies and clothing for children — following the destruction left by Hurricane Irma.
"We just wanted to try to bring things to the people where (Irma) hit the hardest," said Shelley Wheeler, finance data specialist with the Flagler County Education Foundation.
The efforts are not over. Community members who have non-perishable goods to spare are invited to donate them to the district so they can be given to those in need through local food pantries, which are trying to meet the demand following Irma.
All Flagler Schools campuses will accept non-perishable food donations, as will the Office of Student and Community Engagement inside the Government Services Building located at 1769 E. Moody Blvd, Building 2, Bunnell.
Donations can be made at the front desk of any Flagler County school or be sent in with students all next week.
