Seven Port Orange detectives, police officers recognized for their work in the community

A group of Port Orange detective and police officers were recently recognized for their work within the community. 

The Port Orange Police Department recognized the seven officers on Tuesday, Sept. 19, in front of family, friends and city. The detectives and police officers were recognized for their "investigative skills, determination and commitment to protecting the city and all who live and visit here," according to the department. 

Officer Kelsie Higham received the Award of Merit for her role in solving a bank robbery less than 24 hours after it occurred. The Port Orange Police Department wrote that she "demonstrated a high level of investigative skill and initiative as she worked diligently to develop leads which ultimately resulted in a positive identification and arrest of the suspect."

Officer Gregory Cook received the Award of Merit for his role in the apprehension of a vehicle burglary suspect. Information provided by Cook ultimately led a full confession from the suspect and a following arrest. 

Cook "displayed keen observational and investigative skills as he recognized the suspect from an intelligence bulletin," according to the department. 

Sgt. Hannalora Green, Det. James Kenny, Det. Michael Wallace, Det. Nicholas Vincenzi and Det. Thomas Yovanovich received a Unit Citation for their role in the out of state recovery of two missing juveniles.

Led by Sgt. Green, Det.’s Kenny, Wallace, Vincenzi and Yovanovich "showcased exemplary investigative techniques which resulted in multiple search warrants and subpoenas to include social media accounts, GPS data and other electronic devices," the department wrote. 

Because of their efforts, both juveniles were recovered safely and returned to their loved ones.
