Matanzas’ Jacob Miley has been on a tear to start the 2018 high school track season. The Pirates’ standout sprinter set three school records last week at the FSU Relays, and on Thursday, March 29, Miley set another school record with his win in the 800-meter run at the Pepsi Florida Relays at the University of Florida. Miley finished the event with a time of 1:52.54.
Flagler Palm Coast’s relay teams faired well at the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville. For the girls: the 4x400-meter team finished in second place with a time of 3:58.35. It was only the third time in school history that a girls team broke the four-minute mark. In addition, the boys team finished in 11th in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 8:16.97.
FPC's Hannah Murphy and Kaity McCaskill signed their national letters of intent to play college lacrosse on Tuesday, April 3, at FPC High School.
Murphy, who transferred from Baltimore to FPC before the start of the school year, signed with the Florida Institute of Technology, a private university in Melbourne. The Division II Panthers play in the Sunshine State Conference.
McCaskill, who is a three-year varsity letterman for the Bulldogs, signed with Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri. The Vikings are an NAIA program that plays in the Heart of America Conference.
After losing its first matchup, the Bulldogs’ baseball team finally got its revenge against its crosstown foe. The Bulldogs dominated the Pirates 12-3 on Friday, March 30, at Matanzas High School in the the teams’ second meeting of the season. Matanzas won the first contest, at FPC High School, 5-3 on March 23. The Bulldogs were riding a three-game losing streak to the Pirates before breaking out of the slump.
