Inaugural Riverfest on the Halifax planned for Riverwalk Park

Also: Rubber duck race to be held in Port Orange.

The Port Orange Riverfest on the Halifax will take place at the new Riverwalk Park, 3431 S. Ridgewood Ave., in Port Orange on Saturday, May 5, and Sunday, May 6. A Land and Sea Dinner will kick off the activities on Friday before an ice cream social and entertainment by Steel Daddy. 

Saturday's events begin with a 5K, followed by a stand-up paddle board race beginning. There will also be vendors, entertainment and food trucks in the park while a splash pad, water slide and rock climbing wall will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Sunday's events will include a motorcycle show, vendors, a cornhole contest and music throughout the afternoon.

Outsmart Scammers

The Port Orange Regional Library, 1005 City Center Circle, will be holding a workshop to help individuals avoid scams and learn about fraud.

Tiffany Kuzma, a financial adviser for Edward Jones, will explain how to spot red flags for scams. She will also discuss the resources people can turn to if they are targeted and what steps people can take now to help protect themselves and their loved ones.

Sophie's Circle to hold another Adopt-A-Dog Half Wall Challenge

Sophie's Circle Dog Rescue is working to get another dog adopted with another Adopt-A-Dog Half Wall Challenge event on Saturday, April 21 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Half Wall, 3770 S. Nova Rd. 

As the event will be on St Patrick's Day, attendees are encouraged to dress up and dress up their dogs.

Lakeside Jazz Festival coming to Port Orange

The Lakeside Jazz Festival is back to help educate about jazz and bring attention to middle and high school jazz bands. The festival also includes an active involvement from colleges, universities and military entities which are interested in recruiting fine jazz performers.

This festival creates designated funding to provide music and leadership summer camp scholarships to festival-sponsoring school participants. This free cultural event is open to the public.

The festival will be held from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. from Friday, April 20, to Saturday, April 21, at City Center, 1000 City Center Cir.

Fifth annual Duck Race to be held in Port Orange

More than 1,000 rubber ducks will be raced at Rose Bay to benefit the Early Learning Coalition as well as Seabreeze Kiwanis Club. Individuals can adopt a rubber duck for $5 with the possibility of winning two Jet Blue Tickets, Traegar Bronson or Costa Sunglasses. 

The event will be held at Hidden Treasure Tiki Bar and Grill, 5993 S. Ridgewood Ave.
