The Port Orange Police Department will be conducting a DUI checkpoint on Friday, April 20, between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. in the 1300 block of Dunlawton Ave.

The POPD previously received a $12,000 grant from the Florida Department of Transportation for DUI and Impaired Driving enforcement.

According to statistics from Mothers Against Drunk Driving, someone is injured every two minutes and a person is killed every 51 minutes in DUI related crashes.

A press release from the police department stated that the goal of the checkpoint is "to reduce the number of instances of impaired driving and ensure the greatest level of safety for residents and visitors alike."
