Celtic Heritage will arrive in town on April 21-22 via the Ormond Beach Celtic Festival, returning for the eight year at the Rockefeller Gardens.
According to a press release, the festival will feature folk music, traditional food and fun activities from all seven Celtic nations and beyond. It will spread to both downtown parks along the Halifax River. There will be five music stages, a Highlands game and representatives from Celtic clans and societies across the region. A shortbread competition will also take place on Saturday
morning.
In Rockefeller Gardens, attendees will enjoy three stages of continuous music, celtic food, crafts, jewelry and a tent featuring jam sessions and master teachers. There will be 25 bands and four Celtic dance troupes from the U.S., Canada and the British Isles making appearances throughout the weekend. Festival-goers can also expect daily parades by the attending clans.
On the other side in Fortunato Park, people will witness the Highland Games and sheep herding demonstrations on Sunday. The Highland Games are sanctioned by the North American Scottish Games Athletics organizations so its competitors can rack up points for competing in Scotland. Saturday will be a day of competition for all experienced and senior competitors, while Sunday is reserved for beginners, demonstrations and classes.
Children may dress up on Saturday to compete to be the Wee Lady and Chieftain of this year’s festival. Competition is open to children from six to nine years old. The festival's annual dog parade is scheduled for Sunday.
