Halifax Sport Fishing Club to hold Special Needs Tournament

The Halifax Sport Fishing Club will be hosting a Special Needs Tournament for children with mental and physical disabilities. The club will be providing rods, bait, food and prizes for participants. 

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, at Bushman Park, 4575 Spruce Creek Road.

Inaugural Riverfest on the Halifax planned for Riverwalk Park

The Port Orange Riverfest on the Halifax will take place at the new Riverwalk Park, 3431 S. Ridgewood Ave., in Port Orange From Friday, May 4, through Sunday, May 6. A Land and Sea Dinner will kick off the activities on Friday before an ice cream social and entertainment by Steel Daddy. 

Saturday's events begin with a 5K, followed by a stand-up paddle board race beginning. There will also be vendors, entertainment and food trucks in the park while a splash pad, water slide and rock climbing wall will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Sunday's events will include a motorcycle show, vendors, a cornhole contest and music throughout the afternoon.

Million Dollar Gala to support active duty military families

A Million Dollar Gala, hosted by the Port Orange Family Days Community Trust, will help raise funds for active duty military families and celebrate past fundraising efforts. The event was created to commemorate the milestone of the Community Trust giving back $1 million to the community. 

The gala will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, at the Museum of Arts and Sciences, 352 South Nova Road.

Getting in shape with group walk and run

The Running Elements will be hosting a free walk or run event at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, at the Port Orange Pavilion, 5521 S. Williamson Blvd.

Attendees can get in some extra steps on the

half-mile path around the lake. The casual meetup allows for participants to go at their own pace and distance. Strollers and children are welcome to join. A certified running coach will also be out to support and answer questions.

Gary Joseph to present at dementia caregiver seminar 

A free seminar will be held for medical professionals, family members and friends caring for loved ones with dementia and people who may be experiencing signs of early-stage dementia.

Gary Joseph LeBlanc will be speaking about coping with the everyday challenges and emotional struggles of caring for the memory impaired. LeBlanc has been the primary caregiver for his father who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and his mother who was diagnosed with vascular dementia. He has more than 5,000 days of personal caregiving experience in helping those with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia.

The event will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, at the YMCA, 4701 City Center Parkway.

Hub Cycling plans morning shop ride

Cyclists can get in an early morning ride with the Hub Cycling group during the Saturday, May 5, ride. Riders will follow a loop down to Ponce Inlet and back with rolling speeds of 22 miles per hour and intermittent sprints. 

Riders will meet at 8 a.m. at 3751 S. Clyde Morris Boulevard, Unit 5.

All Saints Lutheran Church to hold Relay for Life event 

The All Saints Lutheran Church is having an event to support Relay for Life on Friday, May 27, to celebrate Memorial Day. 

The “Name that Song” event will include old time standards and patriotic songs with soprano Julia Hood and baritone and pianist Charles King. 

The event will take place at 2 p.m. at the All Saints Lutheran Church, 751 Dunlawton Ave.
