New Smyrna Beach Police are investigating a sex offense reported by a former Spruce Creek high female employee who told police she was raped by four football players on May 30, 2018.
According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, the employee reported she was drugged and sexually assaulted by the students, two of which are 18 years old and the other two are 17. Two of the players told the newspaper that while they did have sex with the ex-staffer on the last day of school, it was consensual. They added that the woman had urged the players to have sex with her, and that she had flirted with them at school on various occasions.
Police are investigating more than one party, the News-Journal reported. Volusia County School officials are waiting until the police investigation is completed before deciding if they should take any further action. The newspaper reported that two of the players have transferred schools and the remaining graduated this year.
The players interviewed by the newspaper said the employee had moved to the Midwest, citing social media postings. One of the players and his father told the News-Journal that they had an assurance that the criminal investigation would close soon and that none of the players would face charges.
