A proposed roundabout that inspired opposition from county residents and some officials is "on hold," according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
The roundabout was planned for the Cody's Corner intersection, at State Road 11 and County Road 304.
County Commissioners — particularly Nate McLaughlin, who represents the westside — have said during public meetings that it could be difficult for large farming vehicles to navigate the traffic circle.
FDOT representative Steve Olson said during an Aug. 9 public meeting about a proposed roundabout at U.S. 1 and Matanzas Woods Parkway that the agency's plans for the Cody's Corner roundabout, which had been proposed for construction in 2022, have been paused.
"There are certain things that came up in our research that we want to reconsider," Olson said.
FDOT, he said, might consider improving lighting in the area and adding a flashing red light on County Road 304 and a flashing yellow light for State Road 11. And the roundabout ultimately might still move forward.
The proposed roundabout at Cody's Corner was one of three roundabouts FDOT has considered adding to Flagler County. The other two — one at U.S. 1 and Matanzas Woods Parkway, expected to start construction in summer 2019; and one at U.S. 1 and Old Dixie Highway, expected to start construction in early 2019 — are still moving forward at this point.
