Long waits outdoors will be a thing of the past as Volusia County relocates Veteran Services and Human Services to a larger space.
Deborah Denys, Volusia County Vice Chair for District 3, said the original location at East Canal Street did not have enough space.
Often, residents would sit on benches or sidewalks as they waited for their appointment or to speak to someone, she said.
The new location, located within Florida Department of Health of Volusia County, will have a larger waiting room, parking space and ADA-compliant bus stops at the front of the building.
Services also will be easier to find because they will be located at the front of the building, she said.
“No more will citizens sit on benches outdoors to get in or into the overflow,” Denys said.
She said the county has needed a larger office for several years.
The area’s population continues to grow, and this is the only Veteran and Human Services for residents living in East Volusia County, Denys said.
Residents will have a chance to see the new location at 9 a.m. on Aug. 20 during a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
It’s located at 717 W. Canal St. in New Smyrna Beach.
Denys said it’s just a couple blocks from the original location.
