Trent Schake has sat on the Bulldogs' bench as an assistant coach for the past seven years. But on Wednesday, Aug. 23, Schake celebrated a win in his first match as head coach of Flagler Palm Coast's girls volleyball team.
The Bulldogs defeated Seabreeze in four sets.
After a first set that saw the Bulldogs win 25-11, the Sandcrabs rallied in the remaining frames. Seabreeze came out on top in the second set 27-25 to even the match. The Bulldogs led by as much as 11 points in the third set before Seabreeze tied the game at 25, even holding a brief 1-point lead, before the Bulldogs eclipsed them 27-25. The Bulldogs sealed the match with a 25-21 win in the fourth set.
Faythe Taugher led FPC with 10 kills.
"We came out strong in the first set and coasted a little too much the rest of the way. But they pulled it off," Schake said. "It's fantastic to start off with that momentum and then to use that the rest of the season."
