A ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony will be held at the newly built Commissioner Louis L. Jackson Municipal Park at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, according to a news release.
The city has owned the vacant property, located at 308 South Pine St., which was frequently used for loitering and dumping trash. The Bunnell Police Department saw a need to do something productive with the property. As a result, in 2016, the city applied for a Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program grant. The city was awarded a $50,000.00 FRDAP grant in January 2017 to build a park on the property.
The Bunnell City Commission voted to name the park the Commissioner Louis L. Jackson Park, after the first male African American city commissioner who served Bunnell from April 1981 to April 1987, on Jan. 8.
Construction of the park began in 2018.
