Robert Roy Robbins, a 62-year-old resident of Saint Joseph, Missouri, died in a motorcycle crash on U.S. 1 and Old Dixie Highway the afternoon of Dec. 22.
Robbins was riding a 2015 Harley Davidson X1200 north in the outside lane of U.S. 1, when for unknown reasons, he lost control and ran off the roadway on its right side, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.
He struck a sign, was thrown from the motorcycle, then struck the side of a Chrysler van that was stopped on westbound Old Dixie Highway at the intersection with U.S. 1.
Robbins died at the scene of the crash. The two adults and two young children in the van were not injured, according to the news release.
U.S. 1 at Old Dixie Highway has repeatedly been the site of serious crashes, and the Florida Department of Transportation is planning to add a roundabout at the intersection.
