Tara Fatta's favorite thing about being in the education industry is being around young people and never having the same day twice.

"My students inspire me constantly and I am truly grateful to be able to build relationships, provide guidance, and watch them grow," Fatta said in a statement.

Fatta, a guidance counselor at Ormond Beach Middle School, said she feels honored to have been nominated for Teacher of the Year among her fellow educators because she works with "such amazing and dedicated people." Although less common, Fatta said it is not unusual for a guidance counselor to receive the nomination.

She decided to become a guidance counselor because of her interest in psychology and the motivation behind human behavior, she said. Before heading in that direction, Fatta began her educational career as an Exceptional Student Education teacher. She still uses many of the strategies she learned during that time.

"The experience I received from working with students with learning and emotional disabilities was extremely valuable to my success as a school counselor," Fatta said.

If she could share some wisdom with her students, it would be to take a step back from the fast-paced changing world of technology and social media.

"Unplug often, practice kindness, be confident, and make your priority to become the best version of yourself," Fatta said.
