Italian pianist, Francesco's Attesti will be coming to the Catholic Church of Epiphany, 201 Lafayette St., to hold a concert with proceeds benefiting literacy among children in Ghana. The classical pianist will be joined by Matteo Galli, chief organist and music director at the Basilica di Santa Maria presso San Satiro and the Basilica of SanGiorgio al Palazzo.
The concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9.

Thank You Five Theater to present a Valentines Day re-do
The Creative Happiness Institute and Thank You Five Theater will be giving lovers a chance to re-do their Valentines Day during the “Have-a-heart” slam. The evening will feature a band, comedy, poetry and slam from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, February 24. The evening will feature performance poet Scott Velazco as well as James Ryan and his band.
Ryan is a veteran in the live music scene with 11 years in the business. Other band members are Anthony R. Smith on bass, Michael Brown on drums and Daniel Carter on guitar.
Velazco has worked with Nashville’s top recording studios engineering Grammy-winning albums. He teaches Music Production Technology at Daytona State College and lives in Ormond Beach where he has also established himself as an award-winning slam poet.
There will also be an open mic with a $50 prize for the best performance. All styles of music, comedy and poetry are welcome.
Admission is $5. Refreshments are available.

Actors to portray presidential couples at library
Actors William and Sue Wills will portray Presidents Andrew Jackson and Ulysses S. Grant and their wives at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the Port Orange Regional Library, 1005 City Center Circle, Port Orange.
The free presentation is part of the couple’s series of theatrically performed dialogues about 34 former presidents and their wives.

The program is part of the Volusia County Public Library's NEA Big Read, a six-week celebration of “True Grit,” a 1968 novel by Charles Portis.
Mel Martin and Tyran Basil to speak in Port Orange
Mel Martin, who is running for the Florida Senate in District 14, which includes Port Orange, will be speaking at Mellow Mushroom, 5790 Journeys End Way, at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb 13. Martin will be joined by Tyran Basil, who is running for the the Florida State House of Representative for District 27.

Church to hold variety show to support the performing arts
The 16th annual Benefit and Variety Show supporting the performing arts will be held at the Port Orange Presbyterian Church, 4662 S. Clyde Morris Blvd. The event's proceeds will be going toward the Courtney Anne Rice Performing Arts Scholarship fund to provide scholarships to graduating seniors that have participated in the performing arts.
