A former Mainland High School chorus teacher and current supervisor of Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare’s residential adolescent program was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 13 for showing a teenage boy pornography and masturbating in his presence back in December.
The 16-year-old victim told a Stewart-Marchman supervisor that Ormond Beach resident Kern Cox asked him to come into his office the night of Dec. 14, where he showed him a pornographic video and attempted to get the boy to join him in masturbating. The Volusia County Sheriff's Office reports that Cox denied the incident and said he hadn't viewed pornography since high school.
However, video surveillance from the hallway outside his office and a search through Cox's phone confirmed the victim's story. Cox was charged with showing obscene material to a minor and the use of a child in a sexual performance. He's held on a $50,000 bond.
