An adult man who died after being pulled from the lake at Memorial Park, 3801 Jackson St., has been identified as William Rader, 64, according to the Port Orange Police Department. Raider was transient and has no known address.
The investigation is ongoing, but authorities do not believe his death to be suspicious or criminal in nature. Attempts to locate his next of kin have been unsuccessful as of Wednesday, Feb. 14.
Raider was found after a citizen called 911 to report seeing a body floating in the water.
Port Orange police responded to the call on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at approximately 3:56 p.m. POPD patrol officers, Port Orange Fire Rescue, and EVAC personnel responded to the scene and pulled an unresponsive adult male from the water and began treatment. POFR and EVAC personnel regained a pulse on the male, who was then transported to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach for further treatment. The male was later pronounced dead at the HMC ER.
Port Orange Detectives responded to the scene and are actively working this investigation. The male has been identified, but his name is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
