La's Bistro hosted a yappy hour with a Mardi Gras theme on Sunday, Feb. 18, for an afternoon of festive fun to benefit Sophie's Circle, a pet food pantry and dog rescue nonprofit in Ormond Beach.
Dogs soaked up the sun while wearing colorful beads and Mardi Gras accessories. A doggie buffet and live music by Sweet Melissa Music added to the festivities. While the event was free to attend, guests were encouraged to donate to the nonprofit.
La's Bistro Owner Carlos Soldevilla has a special place in his heart for organizations that benefit dogs, as his family adopted a malamute dog from Sophie's Circle.
The restaurant hosts an event once a month to benefit different local, canine-focused nonprofits.
Kathy Blackman, founder of Sophie's Circle, said the profits from the event will go toward vet bills.
"We rescue, rehab and re-home dogs, especially ones in distress, and we also have Volusia County's only pet food pantry," Blackman said. "We've been giving food to people that can't afford it for their pets for 10 years now."
