Library to hold session to educate public on the state’s constitution revision process
A member of the Florida Bar will explain the Florida Constitution revision process at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, at the Port Orange Regional Library, 1001 City Center Circle.
Once every 20 years, a 37-member Constitution Revision Commission conducts a thorough review and proposes amendments to the Florida Constitution. The amendments will go on the November ballot for voters to decide. Florida is the only state where this happens.
Due to a recent survey showing that nine of 10 Floridians are unaware of this process, the Florida Bar in October launched “Protect Florida Democracy: Our Constitution, Our Rights, Our Courts,” a statewide public education program to fill the void in Floridians’ awareness of constitution revision and engage them in this critical process.
Reservations are not required for this free program, which is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
