Executive Director Karen Worley said many obstacles stood in the path of the opening of Sabal Palms Assisted Living and Memory Care in Palm Coast.
The facility initially had plans to have a grand opening in September, Worley said, but it kept getting pushed back.
One big reason: the arrival of Hurricane Irma.
When Sabal Palms, located at 2125 Palm Harbor Parkway in Palm Coast, had its official grand opening ceremony on the afternoon of Wednesday, Feb. 28, Worley felt a sense of relief.
“To be here this day, right now, is just an amazing feeling,” she said. “We’ve been so pumped about it, so prepared for it. It’s just an exciting day.”
The 82-bed facility, which took in its first resident on Dec. 1, is already at half capacity and has been averaging up to 10 move-ins per month. The maximum capacity is 100 residents, a goal Worley said she expects to hit come the fall.
The eight-acre facility has a movie theater, fitness center, salon and spa, a dog run, a game room, a fireside lounge, a piano lounge and bar and a 24-hour bistro.
“One of the great things about a grand opening is trying to get some of those potential residents to come in and view our community and see what it’s like and to get the feel of it,” Worley said.
Over 500 people attended the event.
