High tides associated with the winter “bomb cyclone” severely damaged many Flagler Beach beach access dune crossover locations Jan. 3, according to a Flagler Beach city government news release.
But the beach remains open, and city staff on Jan. 4 inspected all of the crossovers and declared the following ones open for public use:
North of State Road 100: North 23rd Street, North 12th Street, North Eighth Street, North Seventh Street, North Third Street, North Second Street.
South of S.R. 100: the ramp between S.R. 100 and South Second Street, South Second Street, South Third Street, South Fourth Street, South Fifth Street, South Sixth Street, South 11th Street, South 21st Street, South 22nd Street, South 28th Street, South City Limits/Volusia County line.
The city has marked closed crossovers with yellow "caution" tape and blocked access with wood boards.
The city has asked residents and visitors to remember not to walk on the dunes, because doing so causes erosion and violates city ordinance.
The city will hold more inspections over the next two weeks and will notify the public of the repair schedule and any re-openings, according to the news release.
