The Flagler County Sheriff’s Communications Center fielded multiple calls on Sunday, Jan. 7, after a social media post threatened a school named “MHS,” according to a news release.
An investigation by the Sheriff’s Office found that the post was not referencing Palm Coast’s Matanzas High School but was instead targeting Monticello High School in Albemarle County, Virginia.
A suspect was identified and detained in Virginia.
But as a precaution, the Sheriff’s Office increased patrols at all schools on Monday, Jan. 8. In addition, school personnel were informed of the incident.
“The safety of our children and school employees is a top priority,” Sheriff Rick Staly said in a release. “We will continue to have a strong presence in schools to dissuade this type of behavior in any Flagler school.”
