Florida Sen. Dorothy Hukill’s bill designed to provide Florida taxpayers with more transparency and accountability from the taxpayer advocate has passed its first Senate committee with unanimous support.

The legislation, SB 826, requires the Taxpayers’ Rights Advocate Office to submit annual reports outlining the issues faced by taxpayers throughout the year, including filing issues, extensions and mistakes on forms.

“The Taxpayers’ Rights Advocate provides an important service. If there are issues that arise dealing with taxes, I think it’s helpful to have someone who will be there to provide assistance and support,” Hukill said in a press release.
