Spruce Creek quarterback Kyle Minckler is going to be playing college ball next season.

Minckler, the senior signal caller who helped lead the Hawks to a 8-2 record and a playoff berth in 2017, announced his decision to play football for Ottawa University via his Twitter account.

Minckler, one of the top quarterbacks in the area, tweeted: "I am very proud to announce that I will be furthering my educational and football career at Ottawa University. #brave18"

The school, located in Ottawa, Kansas, is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and competes in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Hawks boys soccer back on track, girls in a rough patch

After suffering its first loss of the season on Jan. 8, Spruce Creek's boys soccer team got back to its winning ways with victories over Deltona and New Smyrna Beach. The Hawks blanked Deltona 2-0 on Jan. 12 at Deltona High School and took down the Barracudas 4-1 on Jan. 13 at Spruce Creek High School. The Hawks are 18-1 on the season and 8-0 in district play.

The Lady Hawks, however, lost their first game of the season after DeLand outscored the Hawks 5-2 on Jan. 11. The Hawks played University to a 2-2 draw in their next game on Jan. 13.  The Hawks are 12-1-2 for the season and 2-1-1 in district play.
