If it’s Super Bowl Sunday, it must be time for the annual Chili Cook-Off. For the eighth year, this event, benefitting the Children’s Home Society, will be on the day of the big game, but early enough so that participants can enjoy chili and maybe some bowling before settling back by the television.
The event will be Feb. 4 at Ormond Lanes Bowling Center 260 N. U.S. 1, Ormond Beach.
Those who want to enter the contest should arrive at 10:30 a.m. to register with prepared chili in a crock pot. The cost is $20.
Tasting and judging will be from 11 a.m. to noon and the cost is $5. For those who also wish to take part in nine-pin bowling at noon, the cost is $20 and includes tasting and judging the chili.
Trophies and prizes will be awarded. There is also a bake sale, raffle and silent auction.
The Children’s Home Society recently celebrated its 115-year anniversary. It started in Jacksonville as an orphanage and now operates throughout Florida, identifying and addressing key issues facing children and families. When children are removed from homes because of drugs or other reasons, the society provides services so the family can be brought back together.
