The Ormond Beach Police Department teamed up with Hush Puppy Haven to help women step up their personal safety via its "Guard Up" women's self-defense seminar held on Jan. 22.

This was the second time OBPD offered the seminar, which was designed to help local women get some personal safety practices.

People in attendance were able to get environmental awareness practices, self-defense techniques and assault prevention education. They were also given information they could pass on to other friends and family members.

The proceeds of the event went toward Hush Puppy Haven, which helps provides temporary foster care for the pets of domestic violence victims while they seek shelter from their abusive situation.

OBPD offers monthly SLAP women's self-defense classes. If interested, callĀ 676-3526.
