The Ormond Beach Lions Club chose Franco Perez as the club's January student-athlete of the month at Seabreeze High School.
Perez is the captain of the state champion soccer team and last year was named 3A State Player of the Year, Volusia/Flagler Soccer Player of the Year, All-Area First Team, Team MVP and Player of the Game for the state final. He hasn't let his academics fall behind either, and has been taking AP classes since his sophomore year. He maintains above a 4.0 GPA.
When not in school, Perez volunteers at the Ormond Beach Library, the Ormond Beach Soccer Club, tutors students in Spanish and serves as a counselor to spanish-speaking foreign students. Once he graduates, he plans to major in business administration in Flagler College and play for their soccer team. One day, he hopes to become a professional soccer player and start his own business.

"An assignment takes on new meaning when students are aware that they are actually participating in real world situations. Fourth-graders are just beginning to realize they have a 'voice.'"
The students' assignment was to express their opinion on the cost of Mars exploration. Here are three of our favorite essays:
The Captain James Ormond Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution inducted Karen Knowles as a new member at their January meeting.
Also, Meredith Wayne Price, author of "Gretel’s Cross," was the featured speaker at the meeting.
