FCSO offering chance to go 'behind the scenes' at Sheriff's Citizen Academy

Classes, which begin on March 13, are from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.

If you want to get an inside look of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, then sign up for the Sheriff’s Citizen Academy.

The Sheriff’s Citizen Academy is a six week behind-the-scenes look at the daily operations of all areas of the FCSO, according to a news release by the FCSO.

Participants will visit the Sheriff's Office’s communications center and detention facility; learn about district policing, the investigative services division, drug and gang enforcement, victim services and SWAT. The motor unit and K-9 unit will give live demonstrations, and each participant gets a ride-along with a deputy.

Classes, which begin on March 13, are from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.

“The Sheriff’s Citizens Academy is a great program that offers the community a behind the scenes look at what our employees do each and every day,” Sheriff Rick Staly said in a release.

The Sheriff’s Citizen Academy is accepting applications until March 9. You can download an application from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office website, and for more information, visit http://www.flaglersheriff.com/public-interest/citizens-academy

Participant Requirements:

• Minimum age of 18 years old.

• Must live or work in Flagler County.

• Must have no prior felony convictions.

• Must have no misdemeanor arrests within the last 12 months.
