Out-of-town sports teams that want to use city of Palm Coast government facilities for their events will pay a bit more under a new proposed pricing plan that would raises some facilities’ rates for out-of-town users, and, in some cases, for locals.
“The demand is greater than the amount of facilities we have,” City Manager Jim Landon said at a Jan. 30 City Council workshop discussion about the proposed changes.
The city’s sports fields, which are currently free for seasonal use, would begin charging a $3 fee per registered player for teams that are not Sports Alliance members. Sports Alliance members would continue to play for free.
For tournaments, fields would remain free for Sports Alliance members but would charge a daily fee of $25 per field, and $35 per weekend, for non-members. The concession stand would open for free only with the booking of six or more fields.
The city would revise its fee schedule for the Tennis Center — discontinuing its families rate and couples rate and dropping its single rate from $578 to $550 and its junior rate from $315 to $149 — and would keep fees largely the same at the Palm Harbor Golf Club, but with more enforcement.
Fees at the Frieda Zamba Pool would remain the same, except for the addition of a $45 per month “limited family” admission pass intended for people who are hosting visiting family members and want to get them pool access for the time they’re staying without having to buy a seasonal pass.
The new Palm Coast Community Center would keep the hourly rental rate for its activity room during regular business hours at $15 for non-profit use and raise its rate for another room, Room 101, from $15 to $20. But for-profit users will see some steep increases: from $25 per hour to $50 per hour for the activity room, and $25 per hour to $75 per hour for Room 101. Security deports for both nonprofit and for-profit users would be doubled from $50 to $100.
The Community Center does not yet have an opening date, but is nearly completed, said city spokeswoman Cindi Lane.
The City Council will vote on the proposed changes during a future business meeting.
