Palm Coast Little League's 10U all-star softball team beat Callahan Little League twice to advance to the state tournament. It was the first time a Palm Coast Little League softball team had advanced to states.
Palm Coast played its first game against Callahan on Saturday, June 30, in St. Augustine. Callahan beat Palm Coast 14-1 sectionals last season.
Palm Coast won the first matchup 10-5 behind a strong outing from pitcher Ashley Sampselle, who threw a complete game, throwing 10 strikeouts to six hits and two walks.
Palm Coast run-ruled Callahan 15-5 in the fourth inning of the second game. Jamie Hill pitched the whole game, throwing seven strikeouts to one hit and three walks.
Shortstop Emily Warren scored five runs and had three RBIs. First baseman Gia Piazza went 3-of-6, had four runs and three RBIs. And catcher Sadie Schell had four RBIs and threw out three baserunners from behind the plate.
