A burglar knocked a hole in the wall of the Dollar General at 500 Palm Coast Parkway Southwest early the morning July 5 and stole $4,700 cash and about $60 worth of fireworks.
A store employee arrived at the store at about 6:50 the morning of July 5, went inside and noticed that the store's safe had been entered, according to a Flagler County Sheriff's Office case report.
The empty cash trays were strewn across the floor, and there was a hole in the east side of the building. She left and kept arriving employees outside until deputies arrived.
The hole in the wall entered at the store's cosmetics section. The store did have an alarm system, and the alarm had been set at midnight, but it did not go off. It was turned off in the morning by the store employee when she arrived, according to the case report.
The store also had security cameras, which deputies have been reviewing. Deputies taped off the store to preserve the evidence.
The store was the scene of another burglary in October 2013 when a man smashed in the front doors, tried without success to get into the cigarette display case and then ran off.
