John Tuck, who has suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder since childhood, noticed how much the ocean reduced his stress level whenever he went to the beach. This led to the formation of Waves to Recovery Inc., a nonprofit he started a couple of years ago to help others with PTSD. Ocean therapy, which includes fishing, boating and whale-watching, plus free therapy sessions, are provided.
To help raise money for the program, the organization, based in Palm Coast, is raffling off a 2011 Harley-Davidson Softail motorcycle. For information, visit www.wavetorecovery.org. The raffle will continue until the last day of the 2019 Bike Week.
Tuck had the bike on display at the Ormond Outpost Summer Bash and Yappy Hour on July 21 at 1385 N. U.S. 1. Ormond Outpost promotes a charity at each event, and Waves to Recovery Inc. was selected for this month.
Also at the Summer Bash was Robert Arrington, co-founder of “Deer Meat for Dinner” and a YouTuber with nearly one million subscribers. Arrington demonstrated Bowtech bows for the crowd and also talked his love of the sport.
“I’m hooked on archery hunting,” he said. “The silence of it. You have to get so close.”
There were also vendors on display, including Curaleaf, a medical marijuana distributor, which plans to open a store on West International Speedway Boulevard this fall. They also have home delivery. Visit www.curaleaf.com.
There were also booths with crafts, including Christina Johnson, of Ormond Beach, who had decorative wreaths.
“It’s a side project between my three kids and two jobs,” she said with a laugh.
Pat Fellows, of Flagler Beach, exhibited her craft, “Windows to the Sea,” where she uses shells, sand, starfish and glass found on the beach.
“Every piece of glass washed in at Flagler Beach,” she said.
