For more than 25 years, Jeff Evans has enjoyed at least one constant on his birthday, and that's his homemade cake.

While she worked for Evans for over 20 years — and even in the 10 years since she retired — Pat Kirkley has made Evans a carrot cake every year from scratch, including shredding her own carrots. Kirkley was also a nanny for the family.

Kirkley visited Evan's State Farm Insurance office at 745 Dunlawton Ave. on the afternoon of July 23, to deliver the cake for Evans to enjoy with his current employees and his wife, Cindy, who is a team leader and office manager for the business.

When asked why she continues to make him a carrot cake every year, Kirkley said, "Because that's his favorite cake." She added, "It's the little things in life."
